The joke at the end of Chivas, Roberto Alvaradoat the club’s press conference backfired, and the Mexican media deemed the action inappropriate and withdrew in protest. Alvarado threw the explosive device into the press room as part of an alleged prank before Thursday’s conference in Verde Valle, Guadalajara, prompting reports of attacks on journalists.

“What happened today at Chivas is amazing… In almost 15 years of covering the team, this has never happened. It was NOT a joke as they say. They put an ‘explosive’ at the door of the press room with everyone inside ,” wrote journalist Karina Herrera on the social media platform X.

Other reporters shared photos and videos of the firework and said it hit a cameraman in the leg. After the fireworks went off, the players at the press conference, José Castillo and Fernando Beltrán, asked everyone to remain calm.

The story went viral on social media and Alvarado responded to the joke and apologized. He had no intention of firing in the press room, because it was just a joke for his teammates, the player said.

Some journalists returned to the conference room, although local newspapers strongly condemned the player’s actions, adding to the criticism of the team’s poor form this season, which left them in tenth place in the League standings. Chivas have 15 points from four wins in 10 games.
