He Borussia Dortmund can’t count on the forwards Karim Adeyemi and Julien Duranville for several weeks after both fell ill in Tuesday’s 7-1 victory over Celtic in the Champions League, coach Nuri Sahin said on Friday. The Ruhr Valley club achieved their biggest European success: German international Adeyemi scored a hat-trick before being withdrawn with a muscle injury and replaced by 18-year-old Belgian international Duranville, who also picked up an injury in the match that’s it.
“We will be without Karim and Julien (Duranville) for some time. They are expected to return after the international break in mid-November,” said Dortmund coach Nuri Sahin in a press conference. He said Gio Reyna, who has been sidelined since last month, will also delay his return after suffering in his own recovery.
Dortmund, fifth in the Bundesliga with 10 points, three behind leaders Bayern, travel to Union Berlin on Saturday hoping to make it two league wins in a row for the first time this season. Sahin’s side have struggled for consistency so far, suffering a 5-1 defeat at VfB Stuttgart two weeks ago before rebounding with a 4-2 win over VfL Bochum and then overcoming Celtic.
“When something needs to grow, it needs time,” said Sahin, in his first season in charge of Dortmund. “Every day in this job is important. I don’t look for excuses. I know how to classify Celtic’s game. It’s not like we hug ourselves and say ‘we’re the coolest’ because we won 7-1. We’re expected to put in these kinds of performances every day and if we win (Saturday) then the world might look a little better.
