The forward of Preston North End, Milutin Osmajicreceived an eight-game suspension for biting a Blackburn Rovers defender, Owen Beckduring last month’s Championship game, the Football Association (FA) said on Friday.
The 25-year-old was charged by the FA last month and Osmajic admitted biting Beck on the neck in the 87th minute of the match. “An independent regulatory commission imposed its sanctions following a hearing. Their written reasons will be published in due course,” the FA said in a statement. Osmajic was also fined 15,000 pounds (about 19,000 euros).
The incident occurred when players clashed after defender Beck, on loan at Liverpool, was sent off for kicking Preston’s Duane Holmes at the end of a goalless draw. The episode led to a confrontation between both sides and Osmajic was seen getting close to Beck’s neck, causing the Montenegrin international to receive a yellow card.
In 2013, the FA also handed Luis Suarez a 10-match ban after the striker bit defender Branislav Ivanovic while playing for Liverpool against Chelsea.
