The Federation of Peñas del Real Valladolid has asked the director of the President’s cabinet, David Espinar, and the CEO, Mathieu Fenaert, that the club “meditate” on maintaining the previous shield, after the “wrong” change of both and that has caused huge controversy among fans.
At a meeting held by representatives of the two institutions on Monday, agreed before the presentation of the new shield of Real Valladolid, where the castles and the winner of San Fernando have been removed, representatives of the supporters clubs delivered of their discomfort in the face of this new thing.
Through a statement they published on social networks, they explained that, as mediators and responsible for the best possible relationship between fans and clubs, they have an obligation to inform the disagreement about the new shield “in the case of such an important symbol, of which most have grown, must be agreed upon and discussed with club members and supporters ”.
They recalled that the Real Valladolid shield was voted by fans of all teams in Spain as the “best” in the First and Second divisions and that its change, made public on the club’s 94th anniversary, “exacerbated it and , far from showing modernity, is back in the past, showing a different design, which almost no one liked ”.
Although they consider that this change was made by the club “with the best of intentions, dedication and love, in the opinion of the club’s supporters and of Blanquivioletas fans, it is utterly unwise”.
In this sense, they understand that the club is constantly striving to evolve and improve Real Valladolid, but the shield should not be an element susceptible to variation, such as kits, which vary annually due to contractual and commercial issues. .
Also, in the statement, the Federation of Supporters Clubs of Real Valladolid assumed that the shield had “been subject to certain variations, in many cases, for reasons of a political nature” but considered that the one that has existed until this Monday, with nearly a quarter of a century of history, represents fans of blanquivioletas and has had “important meaning” for most.
They therefore showed, at the aforementioned meeting, the “strongest of the opposition” to the change made to the shield and asked Espinar and Fenaert to “take the opinion of the fans before making such a drastic change because it is a symbol. feelings of Real Valladolid and associated with key elements in the city’s history such as the castles or the laureate, which also surrounds the coat of arms of Valladolid ”.
After the letter was published, some voices suggested that “take more forceful action, such as rallies or protests in front of the stadium to demand that the previous shield be recovered”, while demanding that no one buy any club product which possesses a new shield.
Those who showed their support for the change of the coat of arms were the political group Izquierda Unida de Valladolid, where they praised the removal of the laureate, as it was considered a Francoist symbol and, in its absence “the Historic memories “.
An opinion that has also sparked a well-known debate on social networks, among those who think of such a laureate as an identity during the dictatorship; those who explain that it is a military symbol that existed eighty years before Franco came to power, and those who defend that the laurel wreath originated in Ancient Rome and Greece, and was given as a reward to poets, warriors and athletes.
