Rooney was accused of violent behaviour

Wayne Rooney Currently coach of Plymouth Argyle (of the second division), he was today accused by the English Football Association (FA) for his conduct during the event in Saturday’s match against Blackburn Rovers. The legendary former England, Manchester United and Everton striker was sent off for allegedly insulting the fourth official and returning to the field after seeing a red card.

Events unfolded as Plymouth won 1-0 and Blackburn scored the tying goal in the 86th minute with Rooney and his players considering the goal should not have gone up on the scoreboard. The coach, furious, confronted the fourth referee.

He left and returned to the field to celebrate a goal

Referee James Linington Rooney was shown a red card and headed for the Home Park Stadium dressing room tunnel, but returned to the field for celebrate Morgan Whitaker’s goal in the 97th minute giving Plymouth a 2-1 win.

“The coach’s conduct was allegedly inappropriate and/or he used abusive and/or insulting words towards a match referee, which led to his dismissal,” the FA said in a statement. “It was further alleged that his conduct after being sent off was inappropriate and/or violent. It was also alleged that upon returning to the field of play after being sent off his conduct was inappropriate.”

“I deserve to be fired”

Rooney has until Tuesday to respond to the charges, though The former England captain said on Monday he deserved to be sent off. “It’s the first time I’ve received a red card as a coach,” he admitted to TalkSport.

“We worked really hard to win the game and for it to be taken away from us because of the referees’ mistake seems very harsh to me. I reacted in a way I probably shouldn’t have done and the red card was deserved from that point on. of perspective,” Rooney said.

Rooney has led Plymouth for this season and the Championship second division club are 14th in the standings.
