Elena Sadiku has marked a milestone in the history of Champions League. At just 30 years old, the Swede is the youngest coach to make his debut in the competition, ahead of Julian Nagelsmann, the current German coach who achieved this at Hoffenheim in 2018 at the age of 31.
Sadiku, who managed Glasgow Celtic, took over in January this year and led the Scottish team to their first Women’s Champions League group stage. His debut took place yesterday Tuesday night and unfortunately Sadiku and Celtic lost 0-2 at home to Twente.
“It was an amazing experience and I’m proud of the girls’ efforts. They fought hard,” Sadiku told the Daily Record. Sadiku hopes Celtic can learn from it all. “I told the girls that being in the Champions League in the top 16 is a big difference compared to playing in Scotland.”
