Carlos Sainz’s first victory in the new Ford Raptor T1+ is now a reality. He came into the fourth stage of the Moroccan rally after placing third on Monday and did not start on Tuesday due to a technical problem detected after the first stage.
The Madrid native, along with Lucas Cruz, went one hundred from zero in one day after rejoining on Wednesday, a day in which he finished in third position, to finish scoring victory on the penultimate stage of the rally through Moroccan land.
The test went well for the Spanish duo, who gave their rivals no options during the test. With this victory, Sainz gave Ford the first victory for the oval brand in a World Championship rally since 2002 with Malcolm Wilson, in Australia.
At the end of the test, Sainz, obviously happy, got out of the car to thank the whole team: It was a lot of fun for everyone. It was a stage where starting from the back also had a certain advantage, but the car went well. A first victory is always special at Ford and whenever you debut a car, being able to win a stage at the debut event is always positive. We worked in the right direction,” declared the Madrid pilot.
At the turn, Nasser Al-Attiyah came in fourth position and got closer and closer to the title. Yazeed Al-Rajhi finished second and the podium was completed by Gerlain Chicherit.
