The father of the star Tottenham, Son Heung-minSon Woong-jung, was sentenced to pay a fine of 3 million won (2,030 euros) by a South Korean court for child abuse. Son, 62, a former professional footballer, is a public figure in South Korea: he wrote a best-seller in which he explains how he helped his son become one of the best forwards in the English Premier League.
But earlier this year, the parents of a young player at Son Woong-jung’s soccer academy said their son was hit by coach Son Heung-yun, the Spurs star’s brother, which left him with a large bruise on left thigh. According to his family, the student and his classmates were also insulted by Son Woong-jun during their training at the football academy.
Son Woong-jung, Son Heung-yun and another person were each fined 3 million won for violating the child protection law, South Korean news agency Yonhap reported. The three people, who can appeal the decision in about a week, will also be required to complete 40 hours of child abuse classes.
The Chuncheon District Court’s decision was made on Friday following their indictment by local prosecutors on August 30, who asked the court to impose a fine on them.
