France consider playing a match Israel on the 14th of November at Princes Parkinstead of at Stade de Francefor security reasons, reports ‘L’Equipe’ this Sunday. The match, in the group stage of the Nations League, was initially scheduled for the Saint Denis area, outside Paris, home to the French football and rugby teams.
‘L’Equipe’ indicates that last Friday a meeting took place between the various French bodies to study the possibility of bringing the match to the Parc des Princes, the municipal stadium where Paris Saint-Germain play Germain, for security reasons. With the conflict in the Middle East as a backdrop, the French authorities believe that it will be easier to manage the flow of people and security controls on access to the stadium in the Park.
First, because of the difference in capacity (the maximum of 47,000 people in the Park compared to 80,000 in the Stadium). But the French newspaper also points out that the National Directorate for the Fight against Hooliganism (DNLH) believes that it is easier to guarantee security outside the Parc des Princes, in the very rich area of Porte de Saint Cloud, than at the Stade de France, because Saint Denis – with a high proportion of the population of foreign origin – may have more support for the Palestinian cause or Lebanon.
Information is advancing that the final decision by the French authorities will take place next week. In any case, an important security apparatus is planned for the meeting, where French security forces already have experience after protecting Israeli teams and athletes during the recent Olympic Games.
