2-0: Kelleher, from hero to villain for Ireland against leaders Greece

The choice of Greece continues its perfect trajectory in group 2 of League B of the Nations League, since Sunday’s 2-0 loss against Irelandfull of wins, 4 out of 4. So, the Hellenes are in the lead, with 3 points more than England (which they beat 1-2 on Thursday at Wembley). The ‘pros’ team also won this Sunday in a 1-3 match Finland.

Greece decided against Ireland in the second half, thanks to goals from Anastasios Bakasetas (scored in the 48th minute, taking advantage of the ball from Tzolis) and Petros Mantalas (scored in the 91st minute).

Before the match, a minute’s silence was observed at the Karaiskakis Stadium in memory of the late Panathinaikos player George Baldock. Caoimhin Kelleher, Ireland and Liverpool goalkeeper, supported his team with 4 excellent saves in the first half.


Bakasetas’ shot, slightly off target, made it 1-0 and a header from Jack Taylor forced Odysseas Vlachodimos into an excellent save. In stoppage time, Kelleher gave the ball to Mantalos when attempting to pass and the midfielder took advantage to make it 2-0.
