In February 1920 the first race was born in Spain dedicated to popular athletics at the initiative of a group of journalists. They named it Jean Bouin in honor of a French long-distance runner who died on the front during World War I after being the Olympic runner-up in the Olympic Games. of Stockholm in 1912 and broke several world records for 3,000 and 10,000 meters.
In its first edition, the race was held between Esplugues de Llobregat and Ciutadella Park, on a 10 kilometer route where a total of 48 athletes participated.
Since then, the test grew steadily until reaching the record 17,000 participants of the 100th editionwhich was held last year, and became one of the important athletic events in the city of Barcelona.
A good example of this is the number of well-known names in our athletics who participated in the event. Among them is outstanding Esther Guerrerowho made his test debut at the age of nine, the same age at which Jean Bouin made his Allianz debut Reyes Estevezwhich will lead to winning the 2019 edition.
Figures like Carme Valero, Isaac Viciosa and Carles Castillejo also do not want to miss the Mundo Deportivo Classic.
Another big name to come through the race is Barça Women’s footballer Salma Paralluelo, who won the race as a Cadet in 2016.
