Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) made sure this Sunday that he had a good weekend at Mexican Grand Prixthough leave the race on lap 16 due to brake cooling problem.
“It was a great weekend. I felt so much love for everyone in the paddock. Great respect. It feels good and I have a positive feeling about the weekend, despite the result,” he explained after retiring from his 400th Formula One race.
Alonso was the third driver to retire from the Grand Prix, after Alex Albon (Williams) and Yuki Tsunoda (RB), so he finished in 18th position.
“The beginning was a bit chaotic, but I think I took advantage to gain positions. We were under control on lap 11 and 12, looking for opportunities to score, but On lap 13 the brake temperature started to become unsafe” added Alonso.
Despite not finishing the race, the Spaniard believes he had a positive weekend. “It was a useful weekend because of all the tests we did that left us with conclusions that we should consider. Hopefully we can come back strong and have a better performance“, he said.
