There were no surprises and Zaragoza played calmly and beat L’Hospitalet to snatch the cup dream from the Catalans. New coach Jaume Delgado made his debut on the home bench in a historic event. For his part, visiting coach Víctor Fernández put the ‘B’ unit in contention with the players with the least participation so far.
The bond began with equality. The script of the meeting was as expected. The expert team took the lead against some Catalans who waited behind to have their options. The hosts wanted to liven up the transitions and it lasted until the end of the first act.
Both teams found the net with their first clear scoring opportunities. Zaragoza players broke the tie thanks to the goal of Alberto Marí, who put the ball in the net thanks to his efforts against a lukewarm defense. The reaction from the franjirrojos came quickly and minutes later, Sanku dealt the local blow with a personal play. Cunningly, he steals the ball, drives and crosses, making it impossible for Femenías to avoid a tie. L’Hospitalet were rewarded in the early moments where they competed well, enjoying a clear counterattack that was in vain as Mamau was drunk on the ball.
The pace of the match was set by the superior team, but nothing too much interfered with the goal of Aliaga, who intervened in several actions accurately. Today, Real Zaragoza showed their fangs and took advantage of the fragile home defense to lead the scoreboard again. Jair, coming in from the far post, drilled a low lateral cross before reaching the break.
A bucket of cold water for a ‘Hospi’ who threatened to step forward, but Zaragoza’s third goal ruled the day: Iván Azón killed the game, coming from behind with a precise low shot which is far from Aliaga’s reach. Immediately after this, Pau Sans transformed again by leading his pair and slightly touching the ball, while, moments before the end, another kiss from the clever Adu Ares took over the winner to eliminate L Hospital.
Physical superiority of Víctor Fernández’s men, who slept through the verdict and ended the confrontation. The ‘wasps’ smell blood and seize their opportunities to kill. The difference in category is noticeable on a physical level, which weakens some and benefits others.
