Inter also entered the Ballon d’Or race for Lautaro

Date:

Javier Zanettivice president of Inter Milandeclared on Thursday that he and the club hoped for a “better position” for his compatriot Lautaro Martinez, who finished seventh in the award that crowned Rodri Hernández from Madrid.

“We all expected a better position, but nothing happens. These awards are like this. ‘Lauti’ has to be calm because with everything he has shown with us and with Argentina, with everything he won, he has the recognition of all the people who love football, we always support him,” the president told the media at the ‘Sport Movies & TV 2024’ held in Milan (north).

Lautaro, who scored the final goal on Wednesday against Empoli (3-0), was the Italian champion at Inter last season, being the top scorer in the domestic championship; champion of the Italian Super Cup; and Copa América champion with Argentina, scoring the decisive goal in the final. “Honestly, I expected to finish higher,” Lautaro commented to DAZN at the end of the match. “I work for Inter and Argentina. And sometimes these awards are not decided fairly. I am happy for my work and for my well-being, because we know that I arrived late and without rest,” he said.

With the goal against Empoli, Lautaro became the single foreign player with the most goals in the club’s history (134), surpassing the Hungarian Istvan Nyers, a forward from the 40s and 50s.
