The Santander Spanish Women’s Professional Championship is doubling its prize money

He Santander Spanish Women’s Professional Championshipwhich is celebrated from November 21 to 23 in Real Guadalmina Golf Club located in Marbellais announcing a significant increase in its prize money for this year’s edition, with 60,000 euros (18,000 for the winner) to be doubled in 2023.

This proposal reinforces the commitment of Royal Spanish Golf Federation along with the development and recognition of talent in Spanish women’s golf, providing additional motivation for participants in the final event of the season of Santander Golf Tour.

Gonzaga Escauriaza, President of RFEGconsiders that “the strengthening of support for the national professional golf of women is an obligation of our institution, which, to the extent of its possibilities, tries to reduce the gap that exists with respect to the professional golf of men little by little.”

After the success of the Solheim Cup held in 2023 at Finca Cortesín, women’s golf in Spain has experienced unprecedented growth. This prestigious championship will bring together the best professional golfers in Spain in its tenth event on the circuit, including renowned players such as Marta Martín (June champion of the Tipsport Czech Ladies Open), Nuria Iturrioz, Luna Sobron or Fátima Fernández Cano.

They will all compete in the challenging south course of Royal Guadalmina Golf Cluban iconic venue that hosts renowned events, such as the Spanish Women’s Open in 2017 and 2020. The course, inaugurated in 1959, is distinguished by its long fairways and fast greens, which require precise approach and outstanding technical control.

Over the years, the Santander Spanish Women’s Professional Championship has appointed great figures of women’s golf, such as Carlota Ciganda in 2012, Luna Sobron in 2018, 2019 and 2020, or the current champion, Nuria Iturriozwhich was crowned in 2023. This increase in the value of the prizes reinforces the tournament’s relevance as one of the most popular in the national calendar and shows the commitment to women’s golf in Spain.

The special edition of the championship will take place just one week earlier than expected Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España presented by Oyshothe final test of the Ladies European Tour which will end the season in Real Guadalhorce Golf Club of Malaga. With both tournaments on the Costa del Sol, November is shaping up to be an important month for women’s golf in Spain, in an ideal environment for top competition.
