Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) reappeared this Friday in the paddock of the circuit Interlagosin Brazil, after traveling to Europe to treat an intestinal infection with a specialist.
“Back to Brazil”the Silverstone team said on its social networks, in a message accompanied by several photos of the two-time world champion dressed in street clothes and wearing sunglasses.
His presence at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace indicates that he will be able to run without major problems in the São Paulo Grand Prix, which starts this Friday with the first free practice session and the qualifying round for the sprint race.
According to Aston Martin, Alonso suffered “an intestinal infection before the Mexican Grand Prix”played last week, and returned to Europe “to extend treatment with a specialist.”
The Asturian driver missed Thursday’s media day at the São Paulo track, although he guaranteed his presence at all times during the weekend’s tests.
Alonso will thus return to a court that has great significance for him, as it was at Interlagos where he mathematically celebrated the achievement of his two titles (2005 and 2006).
This season, he is in ninth position in the drivers’ World Championship, with 62 points.
With four races remaining, Dutchman Max Verstappen, triple world champion, leads the standings, although British Lando Norris is just 47 points behind him.
