American Austin Eckroat, 25, shot a final round of 63 strokes, 9 under par, to win the second title of his career on the PGA Tour and the second of 2024 at the World Wide Technology Championship this Sunday in Los Cabos ( Mexico).
Eckroat, a third-year pro from Oklahoma State, joined the circuit in 2023 and previously won the Cognizant Classic at The Palm Beaches in March. His second win of the season puts him among the elite, joining Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy as one of six two-time champions in 2024.
Eckroat started the first day behind leaders Justin Lower, Carson Young and Colombian Nico Echavarría, while also tied with two other players, Max Greyserman and Joe Highsmith.
Eckroat finished with 11 birdies against two bogeys to complete his extraordinary day. Greyserman, for his part, stood his ground the entire time, but was never able to get into a position to hit. His day of eight birdies and one bogey left him 7 under par for the round and 22 under par for the tournament. Highsmith finished fifth at 19 under par thanks to his final-round 4-under 68, while Echavarria tied for sixth at 17 under after his 1-under 71.
