Three days into the ATP Finals, there is still no one mathematically qualified for the semifinals. The best positioned is the local idol, the Italian Jannik Sinner, that in his 2-0 after defeating the Australian Alex de Minaur and the American Taylor Firz stroking the bruise.
He established his world number one of the year by adding 400 points, 200 for each group victory, which closes on Thursday against Daniel Medvedev who took another 200 off De Minaur.
In the other group are 300 points for Alexander Zverev and the same number for Casper Ruud. Carlos Alcaraz and Andrey Rublev are at zero so far.
Alcaraz is the most disadvantaged among competitors in terms of ranking. Stay away from number 2 Alexander Zverev who had a goal in Turin before feeling weak with a cold, is losing sight of Jannik Sinner, who in January will defend his 2,000 point championship, having already cut 1,000 in Turin as a finalist.
The victim is not there Novak Djokovic who gave up trying to save 1,300 champion points, having already given up his sixth place to Norwegian Casper Ruud, Alcaraz’s executioner.
The limit for an undefeated round robin qualifier is 600 points. Victory in the semifinals gives 400 and victory in the final is rewarded with 500. Only the win is scored.
