There was the option that I would never be a professional cyclist again, but it wasn’t something that kept me going all night, I just thought I was alive, that I had mobility on my legs and that I could walk again later, ”he added.
Part of his quick recovery was “thanks to the strength sent by the people,” Bernal explained, thanking all the expressions of love and desire for recovery that came to him from Colombia and from the world.

“When I woke up after the surgery (for the broken femur) they asked me if I felt my legs, if I could move them, move my arms. That’s when I thought it was serious,” Bernal said this Saturday, who in the first moment after the accident he thought he had just broken his femur.

“I went through the hardest part, which was this time that is really short, but those were the most difficult months. Now I can ride a bike and I can lead a practically normal life. And even if it takes a year for me to compete again, it will be the easy part because I can now ride a bike ”, the cyclist celebrated.
As for the future, the runner indicated “a dream to compete this year”, although so far he has not dared to give a date as it would be “somewhat irresponsible” on his side, he insisted. .
“The Vuelta a España would might be too much, (…) it would hit the body very hard, but that will happen over time and it will be the body to decide,” he concluded.
