Edoardo Bove receives a defibrillator

Date:

The midfielder of Fiorentina Edoardo Bovevictim of cardiac arrest in the middle of a Serie A match ten days ago, underwent a subcutaneous defibrillator placement, the Italian press reported on Tuesday. According to Gazzetta dello Sport and Sky Sport, the intervention took place on Tuesday morning at the Careggi hospital in Florence, where the 22-year-old Italian player has been hospitalized since he suffered a heart attack.

“It is a temporary device, which leaves in a few months the possibility of switching to a specific version or a lighter device,” said the Italian sports newspaper. On December 1, Bove went down in the 16th minute of a match between Fiorentina and Inter Milan. After the match was stopped and emergency services intervened on the field in front of shocked teammates and opponents, he was admitted to intensive care.

The tests made it possible to quickly rule out “severe damage to the central nervous system and the cardiorespiratory system.” Bove will finally find himself in the situation of Danish international Christian Eriksen, victim of cardiac arrest in his team’s first match at Euro 2021. After a broken defibrillator, Eriksen was able to resume his career later for eight months.

In Italy, the defibrillator is a device that is a contraindication to playing professional football. But this device is authorized in other championships, such as in England.
