Carlos Sainz knows the process of promoting Williams to the Formula 1 grid will take time, but the 30-year-old Spaniard says his motivation to do so is “unbelievable”.
Sainz took to his new car for end-of-season tests on Tuesday and finished with the second-best time of the session, just behind his former Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc, marking a more than promising debut in which it’s his fifth team since he’s been in Formula 1.
After closing his time in the team of Prancing HorseCarlos Sainz embarked on a new adventure that will take time to reap good results and, above all, podiums. However, this is something that does not worry the Spaniard too much, who sees himself as capable of ‘reviving’ the historic British team.
“I’m not worried about it,” Sainz told DAZN. “I’ve done it at Ferrari.”
After confirming the high-profile signing of Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari, a move that left the Spaniard without a seat, James Vowles moved decisively to get a driver with a good reputation on the grid to form a pair with Alexander Albon next season.
“Honestly, I think people don’t believe and can’t imagine how much I’m waiting for what’s coming,” said the Spaniard. “It may seem strange to people but this is a project that motivates me a lot. I have in mind helping a legendary team like Williams in F1 and become a top team again. Being part of it is motivates me a lot.”
