Arsenal fans have dedicated a mural to their set-piece coach

Date:

The entertainment of Arsenal has dedicated a mural outside the stadium to the Frenchman Nicolas Joverthe team’s free kick coach, after the spectacular performance of the ‘Gunners’ in this aspect. Mikel Arteta’s side scored 22 goals from set pieces last season in the Premier League alone, setting the record for the most corners resulting in a goal (16) in the history of the competition.

Since Jover’s arrival in July 2021, Arsenal have gone from being eighteenth in the set-piece goals ranking, and have increased the percentage of goals coming from 11% to 22%.

No wonder the fans chanted “set piece, olé, olé”, during Wednesday’s victory over Monaco, nor did they reward Jover with a mural in a tunnel near the Emirates Stadium, where others honors were also unveiled by Leah Williamson, captain of the women’s team, and Martin Odegaard, captain of the men’s team. One of the biggest beneficiaries of Jover’s slate has been Bukayo Saka, who has already made ten assists this season and is chasing the record of twenty held by Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne.

Jover, who was Manchester City’s free-kick coach between 2019 and 2021, reduced the goals conceded by the ‘Sky Blues’ from set pieces from 39% to 16% and in just one season made them best scorers in the championship in this type of plays. Since Jover’s arrival at Arsenal, the team has scored a total of 48 goals, more than any other team in the Premier League and averages one goal every 16.4 corners. Before he arrived at the club, Arsenal averaged a goal every 32 corners.
