Lekue lost popularity in Athletic

Date:

Valverde decided in the summer to strengthen the bands at the level of the defensive line. The arrival of Gorosabel and the promotion of Adama from the subsidiary served, on the one hand, to give the veterans De Marcos and Yuri more competition and time to recover and, on the other hand, to allow the Lekue to lose popularity in the red and white lineups.

A point to consider the latter because for a good part of the last season, the one from Deusto came to exercise without concern for the positions left by De Marcos or Yuri. The versatile footballer from Bilbao has almost accumulated 385 minutes of competition across the 24 official matches the lions have played so far.

Adama, in terms of time played, stands at a total of 544 minutes adding League and Europa League. The left-handed back was replaced by Yuri on three occasions (Girona, Real Madrid and Alavés) and by Lekue on as many (Valencia, Celta and Elfsborg). Of the eight remaining games he played, he completed one (Valladolid) and in the other (Espanyol) he replaced Yuri after the hour mark.

Gorosabel, who covers the space for Lekue on the right, has fewer minutes than Adama in the League, but more in the Europa League and overall.
