Being the best, successfully completing the route of a great cycling tour is not easy. The 21 stages are many stages where each day is an adventure and there are a thousand events that can happen throughout the three weeks of competition with a playing field as varied as the roads, with days completely which is flat, completely broken, with completely flat phases , with rainy days, with freezing days and others where the heat is unbearable.
Considering all this and any day can be decisive for the development of the race, These could be the main stages in the fate of La Vuelta 2025:
2nd STAGE Alba-Limone Piemonte (August 24, 157 km)
Flat with high end. First career high finish. Flat route for most of the stage with the last few kilometers up a 2nd class climb. With around 10 kilometers at 5%, a large group of cyclists can play for victory on the final ramps to the ski resort with the leader’s jersey at stake.
STAGE 5 Figueres-Figueres (August 27, 20 km)
The team time trial is very intense to test the coordination of the cyclists, who will find their best asset for the day in their fellow riders. A very favorable circuit for specialists that will not give rest to cyclists who want to fight for the general classification.
STAGE 6 Olot-Pal (Andorra) (August 28, 171 km)
First mountain stage of the race. The climbs of Santigosa (3rd), at the start, and Toses (1st) will serve as a rest day before entering Andorran territory and climbing La Comella (2nd), in addition to demanding the maximum from in favorites. It will begin to see which teams strongly control the race, with the final climb towards Pal sharing the first kilometers with the climb to Arinsal, where Remco Evenepoel won in 2023. The first differences in mountains can be seen between the favorites, one of the days that the cotton did not deceive.
STAGE 7 Andorra La Vella (Andorra) – Cerler (August 29, 178 km)
New mountain day. Port del Cantó, first category as soon as it starts, will serve to form a rest day before facing two second class ports (in Creu de Perves and Coll de l’Espina. Arriving at the top will be more difficult than before previous day, with the first few kilometers to the town of Cerler (1st) where the greatest demand is concentrated in the first part of the climb.
9TH STAGE Alfaro- Valdezcaray ski resort (August 31, 195 km)
One of those cheat days. Wavy with a high end. Long stage to close the first week of racing. The flat profile of the day may favor running away to get enough profit to fight for victory. Some favorites can try to make small differences on the last climb on the way to the Valdezcaray ski resort (1st).
STAGE 10 Sendaviva-El Ferial Larra-Belagua Nature Park (September 2, 118 km)
The first stage after a rest day is always a mystery and this one shows excitement. Navarra will return to La Vuelta with a winding day that always heads uphill towards the French border. Climbing Larra Belagua (1st), who debuted at La Vuelta 23 with Remco Evenepoel giving an exhibition in the breakaway, will once again star in the race two years later. A final climb that will decide who wins the stage, with a climb of 40 kilometers from the finish line to the Alto de la Corona (3rd).
STAGE 11 Bilbao-Bilbao (September 3, 167 km)
Comanche territory for cyclists at a stage that doesn’t know the word rest and has crumbs of it, with seven 3rd and 2nd category mountain passes. middle of the mountain Typical rolling terrain in the Basque Country. The first part of the stage is a little more tolerable, with the hardness concentrated in the last part. The Balcón de Bizkaia and the double climb to Vivero will pick up the race before tackling the short but tough climb to Pike Bidea a few kilometers from the finish line in Bilbao.
STAGE 12 Laredo-Los Corrales de Buelna (September 4, 143 km)
middle of the mountain Cantabria will once again leave us with a fast, nervous and fun phase. The climb to the Alisas can be used to build a day escape and, in the final section, the tough climb to the Collada de Brenes will make the final choice. The favorites have to be careful not to give up at the top because the last part at the finish line will be very fast.
STAGE 13 Cabezón de la Sal-L’Angliru (September 4, 143 km)
La Vuelta’s longest stage has its crumbs. The first part will go parallel to the coast to enter Asturias and find the hardness concentrated in the last stretch. La Mozqueta (1st) and Cordal (1st) will be the prelude to the final ascent of the very difficult Altu de L’Angliru, a special category. Facing Huesera with almost 200 kilometers in their legs is a litmus test for the favorites who, if they have a bad day, could say goodbye to La Vuelta. One of the queen stages of this edition.
STAGE 14 Avilés-Alto de La Farrapona-Lagos de Somiedo (September 6, 135 km)
Short and difficult phase in Asturian territory. This is a day where the breakaway will consist of important cyclists, good climbers with some margin in the general classification. The climb to Puertu de San Llaurienzu (1st) will increase the difficulty before the final climb to Farrapona (1st), where the favorites will measure their strength.
16TH STAGE Poio-Mos. Castro de Herville (September 9, 172 km)
Perfect for pocketing. In La Vuelta 21 there has already been an exciting day on the road to Mos on a terrain that will see the La Vuelta peloton pass again in 2025. Stage with four scoring climbs (Alto de Antoñino, 2nd; Alto de Groba, 1st; Alto de Prado , 2nd and the finish at another level of 2nd) and there is very bad terrain in the second half that will be very difficult to lower the leak of the day, if any man, and where the favorites cannot be lost.
17TH STAGE O Barco de Valdeorras-Alto de El Morredero-Ponferrada (September 10, 137 km)
It may not seem like it, but this day has meaning. Undulating high-end, naughty stage on the border between Galicia and León. In an intermediate distance, it can be a good day for a getaway where the climbers will have their options to show on the last climb how they have the strength for the last stage of the race with a tight -climbing Ponferrada (1st).
18TH STAGE Valladolid-Valladolid (September 11, 26 km)
Individual time trial with a small slope in the first part of the route. Specialists against the clock can take advantage of pure climbers as this is a relatively uncomplicated route at a technical level that runs, for the most part, on wide roads; and the contenders for the podium or the final victory may lose or gain some valuable seconds.
20TH STAGE Robledo de Chavela-Bola del Mundo. Puerto de Navacerrada (September 13, 159 km)
Final fireworks with a very good stage where the favorites will come very well in this final test. Last mountain stage of this edition. A very winding day, with almost no flat terrain, which will make up for historic climbs such as the Alto del León. The breakaway will find its options from the first climb of the day, La Escondida, to try to put the peloton on the ropes fighting for the stage. The Navacerrada pass (special category) will be the main star of the day, first, next to the Segovian part of the ‘seven rises’ and, as the final climb, the route from Becerril de la Sierra to the demanding Bola del mundo ramps. The Guadarrama mountain range will be the winner of La Vuelta 25. Last but not least, next and decisive.
