The number one in the world, Aryna Sabalenkasent a warning in his season debut at brisbane 500 tournament, on the hard court. Here he debuted with a resounding success by 6-4 and 6-0 against Renata Zarazua.
The Belarusian was working on her new groundstrokes and the Mexican Zarazua suffered against Sabalenka who scored 23 winners and won 71% of her service points.
“The first match is always difficult,” said Sabalenka, who is coming off a stellar season and will begin her quest for a third Australian Open title later this month.
“It was a tough start for me, but I’m glad I closed out the first set. And in the second, I felt that what I was going to do would work, so I was very happy with the first win of the season,” said the Belarusian.
Sabalenka did not give the option of surprise. It was signed by Armenian Elina Avanesyan, who achieved a surprising 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 win over fourth seed Paula Badosa.
