The Spanish Barnabas Zapata fell to the American Jack Sockwho won 7-6 (6), 6-4, 6-4, in the first round at Wimbledon.
Zapata will qualify as the top seed, making his Wimbledon debut for the first time in his career and completing a spectacular month after reaching the Round of 16 at Roland Garros.
The Valencian, however, is helpless against Sock, a fast court specialist who has weakened in previous seasons and has not won Wimbledon since 2017.
However, Sock, a Masters 1,000 winner, Masters Cup player and Wimbledon doubles champion, whipped up 33 winners to reach the second round of Wimbledon for the first time in five years.
The American, number 103 in the world, will face Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime or Frenchman Maxime Cressy in the second round.
