Kazakhstan qualified for the semifinals of the United Cup this Wednesday after defeating a German team playing without the injured Alexander Zverev 2-1.
The world number 2 dropped in the last minute due to a biceps injury. She was due to face Alexander Shevchenko, but withdrew at the last moment, with Kazakhstan leading the tie 1-0 after Elena Rybakina beat Laura Siegemund 6-3, 6-1.

Still in the group stage, in Sydney, Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz won the mixed doubles decider against the Czech Republic and Poland qualified for the quarterfinals.
Swiatek and Hurkacz defeated Tomáš Macháč and Karolína Muchová 7-6 (3) and 6-3 in the decisive match played at the Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney.
The Polish team led 5-2 before allowing the Czechs to get back into the set. In the first singles, Macháč gave the Czech Republic the lead with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Hurkacz, before Swiatek leveled the tie with a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Muchová.
