Rennes made official the signing of Seko Fofana from Al Nassr on January 1, 2025. The 29-year-old Ivorian midfielder arrived in Ligue 1 in a transfer worth 20 million euros and signed a contract until June 2029.
Fofana reached the Saudi Arabian League in July 2023 after Al Nassr paid 25 million euros to Lens. The midfielder, who also has a past with Udinese, Fulham and Manchester City, did not fit in with Cristiano Ronaldo’s team and last season he was loaned out to Al-Ettifaq.
“I am very happy to join Stade Rennais and start 2025 with this new challenge. Conversations with Arnaud Pouille and Frédéric Massara made the difference. The message was strong and the decision that followed was very simple. We will see the possibility to chain games and show that the beginning of the season is below the potential of the club. I hope we can quickly reverse the trend,” commented Fofana in remarks at his new club.
“He is a very good player who will help us a lot because he showed all his qualities from the beginning of his career. He has a lot of personality and a good mentality. He is a player who knows the Ligue very well 1,” he said. Massara, Rennes sporting director.
