Matsuyama leads Morikawa by one stroke at Kapalua

The Japanese Hideki Matsuyama He had a great one-stroke lead after the first 36 holes at The Sentry where the 2025 PGA TOUR campaign begins at The Plantation Course in Kapalua (Hawaii). With a round of eight birdies and no bogeys of 65 strokes and a total of 16 under par he leads American Collin Morikawa by one stroke.

Two of his birdies were made on two of the three par-3s on the course, butBeing the perfectionist that he is, Matsuyama was disappointed not to go lower, as he made pars on three of the par 5s, including a disappointing three-putt on the 18th hole “There’s (frustration), but I’m definitely happy with where I’m at,” said Matsuyama, who earned his seventh 36-hole lead/co-lead of his Tour career.

For his part, Morikawa also had a 65 to move to 15 under par. He had a chance to match the Japanese after making five consecutive birdies near the end of his round, but settled for par at the par-5 18th hole.

Maverick McNealy (64) moved to 14 under par to join Canada’s Corey Conners (66), Belgian Thomas Detry (65) and first-round leader Tom Hoge (68) in a tie for third place.
