The Executive Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved this Tuesday, by vote by letter, the candidacy of Frenchman and president of the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee, Tony Estanguet, for election as IOC Member at the 144th Greek Session, which will take place from March 18 to 21.

“Following the recommendation of the IOC Member Election Commission, Mr. Estanguet will be proposed as an Independent Person,” the IOC announced in a statement on Tuesday, pending the Assembly’s approval, a procedure that should not preclude his candidacy. . .

Tony Estanguet, three-time European, world and Olympic canoeing champion, has developed an important role in the field of sports in recent years. In addition to being president of the International Canoeing Federation, he left another important mark by chairing the Organizing Committee of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the latter with his compatriot Bernard Lapasset.
