The dismantling of the organization dedicated to capturing football matches in the First and Second RFEF (former Second B and Third Division) and the National League of Gibraltar has led to 21 arrests and six persons under investigation in Seville, Cádiz, Almería and Badajoz . The detainees are charged with alleged crimes of membership in a criminal organization, corruption between individuals on the sports field and fraud against gambling operators. In three house searches during the so-called ‘Operation Conifer’ in Andalusia and Extremadura, 60,000 euros in cash, two vehicles, mobile terminals and computer equipment were seized.
The first allegedly faked match was in May 2021, but more than 20 non-professional football matches in Spain are suspected of corruption. The alleged criminal organization, with its epicenter in Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz), was made up of players who took advantage of their condition to agree on results “in teams under their influence”.
