KTM Spain has just announced through a statement that Marc Comathe five-time winner of the Dakar Rally, will step down from his role as CEO of KTM Spain and, with immediate effect, Fabian Simmer, current CEO of GASGAS Spain, will take over the role, overseeing all Pierer Mobility brands . The serious crisis of the Austrian firm is behind the expulsion of the legendary Dakarian who returned to the competition in 2020 as co-driver of Fernando Alonso and always left the door open to return to four wheels.
“Marc Coma has been a key figure in KTM’s success since 2003, playing a key role in consolidating the brand’s dominance in the rally world, especially with his five victories for the brand in the Dakar Rally. After retiring From professional competition, Marc went to play a role within the management of the company, using his passion and experience to take KTM Spain to new heights as General Manager, he contributed greatly to the success and growth of entire product portfolio Pierer Mobility”, highlights the former pilot of Avià in the statement.
Coma also reflects on his career with the Mattighofen firm: “KTM has always represented to me more than a brand: it has become a family. Together, we have achieved things that many believed were impossible. His successor Fabian Simmer has strong experience in the automotive industry, having worked for 15 years at the Volkswagen Group before joining KTM in 2020. Since then, he has overseen the revitalization of the GASGAS brand and played a key role with the construction of a new factory in Terrassa, where motorcycles are developed and produced for the KTM, GASGAS and Husqvarna brands.
