Polish Iga Swiatek suffered hard to top the game-winning streak to 37 by defeating Dutch Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove 6-4, 4-6 and 6-3.
The world number one gave up his first set of the tournament and struggled in the early stages of the third set, against a player who entered the final draw as the ‘lucky loser’.
Pattinama Kerkhove, number 138 in the world, rocked the Pole game, was very serious and focused aware of the danger he was involved in, and forced him into the first third set he had to play since the round of 16 at Roland Garros.
