Carlos Ortiz and Dustin Johnson led the LIV Golf Portland Invitational

Mexican Carlos Ortiz and American Dustin Johnson take the lead after two days at the Portland Invitationalthe first tournament held in the US by the controversial LIV Golf supplying Saudi Arabia.

Ortiz led Thursday with -5 but his -3 card on Friday left him tied with Johnson with -8 overall.

Winner of the 2020 Augusta Masters and the 2016 US Open, Johnson went to -4 this Friday with eight birdies and four bogeys.

Two blows from the head appeared on South African Branden Grace with a -6 overall.

As for the Spaniards Sergio García and Adrián Otaegui have +2 overall and compatriot Eugenio López-Chacarra has +5 before the weekend.

The arrival of LIV on U.S. soil sparked protests from relatives of the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks.who met Thursday in a park near the golf course to express their opposition to this league.

“We ask the players to take responsibility and openly say that‘ we don’t care what the Saudis did to those families, ’” one of them said.

Promoted by the Saudi Arabian government and with millionaire economic prizes, LIV Golf has attracted some of the best players on the planet and sparked an open war in the world of golf between this new circuit and the PGA Tour.
