George Foreman, The Olympic champion in 1968 and the Double World Champion of Heavyweights, died Friday at the age of 76 with a memorable heritage, marked by his longevity in Canvas, the rival with Muhammad Ali and a polyhedral career where he is also a successful businessman.
Foreman’s death, one of the greatest boxers in history, was announced by the boxer’s family with a statement on Instagram, without specifying the causes of death.
Born in Marshall (Texas) in 1949, Foreman had a young person marked by difficulties and low economic resources, but discovered his craving for boxing and made a hole in the most promising boxers at the ‘amateur’ level, before being obtained in 1968 a memorable golden medal in the Olympic Games from Mexico City 1968.
It was the only twenty -one fight, but he reached the Olympus of his sport and his celebration of the gold medal, accompanied by the United States flag, was iconic.
He became a professional boxer next year, in 1969, and in 1973 he reached the title of the world in the heavy category after defeating Joe Frazier in Kingston, Jamaica. Despite leaving without being a favorite, Foreman was the enemy of a rare fight and won it through knockout.
He defended his title, successful, against Puerto Rican José Román and against Ken NortonBefore facing Muhammad Ali in the famous ‘Combat of the Century’, ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ (something like ‘Rumbles the Jungle’) in Kinshasa (Congo).
In October of last year the 50th anniversary of that fight was fulfilled.
Of the ten million dollars on the table, five for each, the two boxers were in a fight that resulted in Ali’s success.
It was 1974 and Foreman came as a man to defeat the World Heavyweight Champion. His corpse and his method of pushing his rival until he was being cornered, made him one of the poorest boxers to defeat.
Ali accepted that procedure, letting himself be able to cornerered and protected his face waiting for the foreman to run out of energies. He also led him to whisper phrases such as: ‘You failed me. Everything is how you know how to hit?
He changed the motion of that fight to the foreman, tired, received a right that left him lying on the canvas. This is the success of Ali in the ‘battle of the century’.
Although Foreman initially refused to accept defeat, over time the boxer changed his position and ended the creation of a friendship with Ali.
In history he also has a fight against 1994 Michael MoorerWhere he recovered the title of the world of heavy weights with 45 years, something that made him the oldest boxer to win that crown. In addition, no boxer has achieved two global titles of heavyweights with many times the difference between one and the other.
Foreman was not only famous for his boxer career, but also for the preacher, acting as a shepherd of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.
It also featured his career in human business, which made him millions of dollars thanks to a popular electric grill for meat that sells millions of units.
