The Tunisian Ons Jabeur became the first Arab woman to reach the semifinals of a Grand Slam on Tuesday. by beating Czech Marie Bouzkova at Wimbledon (3-6, 6-1 and 6-1).
Jabeur, who reached the quarter-finals in London last year, took another step in coming back from a difficult match against Bouzkova. The Czech advanced in the first set, heading into his first Wimbledon semifinals, but Jabeur, the main favorite for the title after beating Polish Iga Swiatek, played two nearly perfect sets to win and pass to the top four in the tournament.
The Tunisian was the first tennis player, male or female, from his country to a Grand Slam final and he was also the first to do so from North Africa or Arab.
Jabeur added ten consecutive winsbecause he won the title in Berlin and in the semifinals he will face German Tatjana Maria, who eliminated her compatriot Jule Niemeier.
