FIFA aims to request the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that women’s football contest in the Olympic Games has 16 options, according to the president of the leading football body, Gianni Infantino.
“We will consider studying the IOC and discussing that in the Olympic games the number of men and female teams are equal. There are 16 women and 12 women and we do not like it,” Infantino announced. “If it is not possible that there are 16 options in the two tournaments we will review other possibilities,” the FIFA president said in his speech at 49 UEFA Congress, which was held in Belgrade.
The women’s soccer contest at the Olympic Games began in Atlanta 1996, with eight teams in Liza. In Athens 2004 he went to ten teams, which was in Beijing 2008 when the current 12 was in Liza.
