Last Monday, May 5, the FIM (International Motorcycle Federation) made many changes to the MotOGP World Championship Regulations. Among the best changes are the creation of a specific test day for pilots to return from long -term damage and the new grill procedure with immediate application of penalties, as happened to Le Mans.
However, one of the points that gained the most noticeable inside and outside of the paddock was the change of Article 2.6.5.2.4, which introduced a new standard related to the aesthetics of the pilots, but that was directly related to security.
The updated text establishes the following: “This is a pilot’s responsibility to ensure that your hair is collected in track activities and does not represent a self -risk or for others.”
With this change, FIM aims to avoid risk situations derived from a slight or blocked perspective due to hair, especially in severe speed and concentration.
Jorge Martín and the incident of bangs
Although it seems anecdotal, this change does not arise from nothing. In September of last year, during the Emilie-Romagna Grand Prix held in Misano, Jorge Martín lived an experience considering to boost this change. The current champion in the world has serious vision problems with the last lap of the Sprint breed due to bangs, which ended with entering his eyes despite carrying a band to hold it.
“I need someone to go to cut off my hair. In the last two laps I haven’t seen anything. I have to shave zero like Daniele Romagnoli,” said the pilot at the end of the test, referring to his leader of mechanics with humor. The track he received during the career noticed nothing but the exacerbation of the Spanish failure, which eventually confirmed: “I have broken it.
An aesthetic standard that precedes security
Beyond shallow, this new provision reflects the promise of MotoGP to safety in all aspects, even those who may seem more worthless. The length of the hairstyle or hair is no longer just a matter of style or image: now they are also subject to regulation.
Aesthetics, such as procedure and physical condition, become an integral part of pilot preparation. From now on, the paddock will witness how security influenced the most personal aspects of its protagonists.
