Ecclestone is charged with millionaire asset fraud

The former “patron” of Formula One (F1), Bernie Ecclestonewas charged with misrepresentation fraud following the investigation of Treasury of the UK to foreign assets worth approximately 400 million pounds (464 million euros), announced Monday persecution in Britain (CPS).

chief prosecutor, Andrew Penhalesaid CPS reviewed a file with evidence from the Treasury and authorized the filing of charges.

Ecclestone, 91, was at the helm of F1 for forty years before being removed from his duties in 2017.

The prosecution determined that the fraud charge was because it did not declare to the Treasury the possession of assets abroad.

Meanwhile, Simon York, director of the Inland Revenue Fraud Investigation Service, said the allegation follows “a complex and global criminal investigation by the HMRC (Inland Revenue) Fraud Investigation Service.”

“The Treasury is on the side of honest taxpayers and we will take strict action where we suspect tax fraud. Our message is clear: no one is beyond our reach,” he added.
