Toprak shines as Bautista hits the ground

Date:

A month later Superbike races are back under the unusual sun at Donington Park. Toprak Reazgatlioglu got his second victory so far this season, leading the race from start to finish. Álvaro Bautista finished second on the ground, allowing Rea to get closer to the world championship. Alex Lowes closed out podium 501 for Kawasaki.

The lights went out and the fight began. Razgatlioglu shone as Rhea gathered herself from her fears. The Yamaha rider made a great start, thanks to which he managed to start leading the race. Behind him, Jonathan Rea. The Kawasaki rider does not want to miss the chance to catch up with the reigning world champion.

Techniques and overtaking attempts marked the first lap until Rea experienced the first fears. Toprak is about to touch, Rea had to reposition the bike to try not to get off. And although he controlled it, he lost three positions.

Behind them was Álvaro Bautista, who they did not want to escape. Then the battle centered between the Spanish Ducati rider and Rea. Meanwhile, Toprak, with a good rhythm, begins to distance himself from his pursuers and as Bautista and Rea fight, the distance grows farther.

In the back they tried to beat each other Iker Lecuona, Alex Lowes and Scott Reading. For the Spanish driver, this was the first time he had ridden that circuit and he was confronted with Lowes ’knowledge and with the improvements the BMW team had demonstrated.

The battle between the Ducati rider and the Kawasaki rider grew, coming parallel to the finish line. With 16 laps left, Rea found space to overtake. But this situation changed again due to the fear of the Kawasaki rider.

Bautista was running second when he got off. It went through turn 12, where Leandro Mercado had crashed a few laps before, and after encountering a few potholes, the bike slammed from the front and slipped on the English asphalt. This gave Rea the second position and the peace of mind of not having to keep fighting, because he was far from third place Alex Lowes.

Outside of the top positions, the pilots are paired. Lowes had to deal with Reading, which in passing laps decreases due to loss of tires, which the Kawasaki rider takes advantage of. Lecuona first ran into Basani and then Gerlof, who caught up with him on the last lap. So that’s it Lecuona finished his first career on the British circuit in eighth position.

With these results, the world championship is tighter and Bautista could lose the lead. The Spanish pilot’s zero caused that, his biggest persecutor, Jonathan Rea, was just 16 points behind.
