the kazakh Alexander Bublik became a rival of the Americans Maxime Cressy for the tournament title Newport after defeating the Australian Jason Kübler with authority, by 6-3 and 6-2 in seventy minutes.
The Kazakh of Russian origin returned, two years later, to the final of this competition played on grass. In 2019 he was defeated by American John Isner who this time fell in the other semifinal against Cressy.
Bublik has seen no rival to Kubler, who has never played and is ranked 102nd in the ATP rankings. The Kazakh is now facing his sixth final even though he has only won once. It was this year, in Montpellier, his only trophy so far.
Bublik has never faced Cressy who previously qualified for her third final after beating the second seed and four-time champion John Isner in three sets (6-2, 4-6 and 6-3).
Cressy hit twenty-two aces to return to the final and claim her first career title. He didn’t win in two more, in Melbourne against Rafael Nadal and in Eastbourne against Taylor Fritz.
