After opening the pre-season with a 1-4 win against Swiss side Lugano, Inter now had to settle for a draw (2-2) in the second test against Monaco at the Paolo Mazza stadium in Ferrara.
Inter, despite their attacking tandem LuLa (Lukaku-Lautaro) at the start, were surprised by Aleksandr Golovin’s quick goal, which was not scored by Wissam Ben Yedder and beat goalkeeper Samir Handanovic in the 8th minute.
Half an hour into the game it was 0-2, Ben Yedder’s work when he finished off a perfectly executed counterattack without Handanovic blocking the goal.
Inter’s reaction
Inter reacted in the closing minutes of the first half by pulling one back to Roberto Gagliardini after goalkeeper Alexander Nübel blocked a header from Danilo D’Ambrosio (41 ‘). Lautaro Martínez still had time to equalize before the break but was repelled by his crossbar shot (45 ‘).
After the break there were opportunities on both sides. Takumi Minamino (47 ‘) and Jean Lucas (52’) came close to 1-3, but Lautaro responded with a header that missed the target (55 ‘).
This is the prelude to 2-2. Romelu Lukaku, who had just returned to Inter after a disappointing year at Chelsea, did not shoot well, but another newcomer, Kristjan Asllani, picked up the ball and leveled with a fine low shot (59 ‘ ).
Lukaku and Lautaro retired
After this goal, Simone Inzaghi completely transformed the team, including a Lukaku who has not scored since he returned to Inter and a Lautaro who scored a brace against Lugano.
Equality was maintained. André Onana, another Inter reinforcement, dodged Monegasque’s goal by repelling shots from Minamino and Gelson Martins (78 ‘) in the same game, while Hakan Çalhanoglu had the last chance in Italy.
