Brazilian winger Dani Alves, the soccer player with the most titles in history, received this Monday a visa that allows him to work in Mexico and at 39 years old he is ready to debut with Pumas UNAM in the Apertura 2022 tournament.
“Everything is ready for his Pumas debut! Our thanks to all the staff of @EmbaMexGua (Embassy of Mexico in Guatemala), especially Consul Alejandro Martínez,” the feline team proudly posted on its Twitter account.
The Brazilian, who left Barça on June 30 after not renewing his contract, arrived in Mexico on Friday and underwent a routine medical on Saturday to sign the Pumas contract.
On Saturday, the feline board presented him to the media in an action attended by about 60 Rebel members, the main die-hard fans of Mexico’s sixth-most winning team with seven league titles.
Alves is processing the visa in Guatemala
After the pre-press event, Alves traveled to Guatemala to process a work visa at the Mexican Consulate, the last step he needed to be registered in the Mx League.
Alves, who won three European Champions Leagues with Barça, plans to play his first Pumas game this Wednesday when the Mexico City side host Mazatlán FC on matchday five of the Apertura.
Wednesday could debut
The board of directors of the group that represents the National Autonomous University of Mexico intends that on Wednesday Alves, whether he enters the call or not, will be presented at the University Olympic Stadium in front of the fans.
The World Cup player with the Brazilian team in South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014 is one of the most mediatic signings in the history of the Mexican League.
Between the 2022 World Cup and the quarry
One of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medalist’s goals with the Pumas is to maintain a high level of competition that will land him on the Brazilian roster for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
In addition, another of Alves’ goals is to help train young soccer players who are preparing for the main forces of Pumas, one of the most important in the country and where Hugo Sánchez, a former figure of Real Madrid, is.
