FIA aims to reduce the carbon footprint

Date:

The president of Senate of the International Automobile Federation (FIA)The Spanish Carmelo Sanzensured, at the end of the inauguration in Cartagena de Indias of the FIA American Congress 2022, that the reducing the carbon footprint leaving motorsport in the world is a concern for the federation.

The president of the Royal Automobile Club of Spain (RACE) also explained that from the FIA they are trying to “bring together politicians on the one hand, the mobile industry on the other, the conventional and renewable energy industry to find and create an agenda that is credible around the world.”

Sanz spoke in this way during the congress that started this Monday and ends on Wednesday, and where the representatives of the main American automobile clubs and the president of the FIA board of directors, Mohammed ben Sulayem, were meeting

The president of the Senate of this organization recognized that environmental sustainability is a very complex issue, “on the one hand there are governments and politicians who can be easy with words but not so easy to implement some of the necessary measures.”

The president of RACE said that he believes that oil companies do not in themselves represent a stone in the shoe for the development of cleaner energy.

I think, like what happened in the energy industry, they won’t go out of business, because they have the capacity for innovation and engineering to advance and develop sustainable fuels”, said Sanz.

“Also, not everything needs to be electric; we have to find what binds us to start working”, he reiterated.

Doubts about sustainable mobility

The president of the Senate of the world’s highest motoring body admitted that although everyone wants the world’s mobility to be sustainable “this remains to be seen, the truth is that we do not know what this mobility will be”.

And in this way, he explained that “they see components that in this first stage do not facilitate or improve mobility but rather complicate it. We begin to see skateboards moving on sidewalks, electronic bicycle, etc., things we still don’t know how they will be.

Therefore, one of the goals of this FIA American Congress is “find a model where we can apply global projects of sustainability and sustainable and safe mobility”with the awareness that there is no global solution but for countries and at different times, according to Sanz.

“Maybe what can be done in Bolivia today has nothing to do with what can be done in Costa Rica or Mexico,” he said.

In addition, the president of the FIA, Mohammed ben Sulayemannounced that they would provide a “great support for karting in the Americas region”according to Sanz, there is “the possibility of having a crosskart in this region cheaper than what is coming to allow clubs and countries to start launching this type of competition”.
