The Irish Football Association has confirmed that Cliftonville and Coleraine have been fined a total of 2,000,000 in the BetMcLean League Cup final for “spectacular misconduct”.
The IFA Disciplinary Committee has indicted and sanctioned both clubs for breaching Section 33.3 of the Federation’s Disciplinary Code.
The allegations relate to the League Cup final, which was held on March 13 in front of 11,000 spectators at the Windsor Park National Football Stadium.
In an official statement issued today, FIFA said Cliftonville had been fined 501,250 “for an incident of spectator misconduct during a match”.
It was noted that this was the third attacking spectator for the North Belfast club this season.
The statement also confirmed that Colleran “was fined 750,750 for spectator misconduct during the same match.”
This was a spectator’s second offense in a show club season.
The media recently reported that pockets of “sectarian hymns” smashed positive publicity for the local game, while fireworks could also be heard at the bottom of Cliftonville.
Cliftonville took the trophy in a big way, revealing a 4-3 victory thanks to goals from superpowers Joe Gormley and Paul O’Neill.
