Former Ecuadorian soccer player Antonio Valencia sent a message of encouragement on Tuesday to Netherlands coach Louis Van Gaal, who on Sunday announced publicly that he has serious prostate cancer.
“Lots of strength, boss, you win,” Valencia wrote on his social networks with a photo in which Van Gaal shook hands for a moment in a match against Manchester United, an English club where they both coincided.
The Ecuadorian was under Van Gaal’s command in two seasons (2014-2015 and 2015-2016) led by the Dutch coach the ‘red devils’, in which he won the FA Cup (2016).
Van Gaal, 70, revealed his illness in an interview on a television channel in his country on the occasion of the presentation of a documentary about his life and explained that he had already undergone 25 radiotherapy sessions.
The coach insisted that his intention was to continue leading the Netherlands team at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, where he was drawn to group A along with, certainly, Ecuador, in addition to Senegal and host Qatar.
