JxCat will actively campaign in favor of ‘yes’ to the Olympic Games in the Pyrenees

The president of the JxCat group in Parliament, Albert Batet, announced on Wednesday that his party will conduct an “active campaign in favor of yes” in the people’s consultation to be convened by the Government in the candidacy to host the 2030 Winter Olympics in the Pyrenees.

The Generalitat will hold a double consultation for July 24: one of the counties of Alt Pirineu i Aranto decide the residents here whether the Government should formalize the candidacy in this Olympic, and another in Berguedà, Ripollès and Solsonès so that they can get a position if they want to “participate” in the project.

In the control session with the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, in the plenary session of Parlament, Batet “celebrated” that the consultation “included the nine regions involved” and advanced that JxCat was “in favor of yes” to the candidacy.

Aragonès “thanked JxCat for positioning itself in favor of consultation” to host the Winter Olympics, which, in his opinion, they represent “a great opportunity” for the Pyrenees, with a “clear commitment to sustainability”.

For his part, Ciudadanos leader in Parliament Carlos Carrizosa blamed Aragonès for generating doubts with the Aragonese government towards a joint candidacy, along with his “lack of honesty, opacity and arrogance”.

“It is boycotting the alliance in Aragon and submitting the decision to a consultation of six counties with populations like Castelldefels”, he said.

Carrizosa’s comment angered Aragonès, who demanded “respect for the citizens of the Pyrenees”to whom it recognizes the right to “have an opinion and express it”, and more in the case of the territory that will host most Olympic events.

Aragonese, in addition, recalled that the Aragonese government “unmarked” of a technical agreement on candidacy already reached with the Generalitat, Government and Spanish Olympic Committee.
