Boxer Adrien Broner’s mental problems: “I’ve seen a lot of people die”

Date:

New setback in professional boxer’s career Adrian Broner (34, 24 KOs-4-1). the boxer of Cincinnati (United States) has announced that he will not enter the ring this Saturday at Hollywood (USA) in the battle that he has to measure against his countryman Omar Figueroa. Broner, ranked as one of the magazine’s top ten boxers ‘The ring‘ of the super lightweight and four-time world champion, justified his decision citing mental problems.

“I am sorry for all my fans, but my mental problems are a reality and I am not willing to risk it inside a ring. I have seen many people die playing with their boxing career and that is something I will not do. Just pray for for me, I love boxing. And it’s too much that I didn’t give it my all and I feel like I failed because my mind wasn’t 100% there and I’ll be a victim if I make that mistake again. I need to do some changes for the better instead of worrying about other people’s feelings and making them happy when the truth is I have nothing to prove to anyone,” he wrote via his Instagram account.

x.setAttribute(“src”, “//www.instagram.com/embed.js”);
x.setAttribute(“charset”, “utf-8”);
$(“.instagram-media”).closest( “span” ).append(x);
});

And this is as he himself pointed out, “I am a four-time world champion in four different weight categories. I will be included in #BoxingHallOfFame So I had to retreat and overcome this obstacle before risking my life inside the squared circle again. I know I’m not done with the sport yet. See you soon.”

His last fight was on February 20, 2021, in a victory over Puerto Rican boxer Jovanie Santiago, in a professional career that also made headlines beyond the ring. A restraining order was issued in 2019 after he made homophobic threats on social media and was soon after ordered to pay more than $830,000 for sexually assaulting a woman in a Cleveland nightclub. Additionally, Broner was booked into jail for a probation violation last year after failing to enroll in an alcohol treatment program.
