Vito van Crooij was the author of Sparta Rotterdam’s first goal at home against AZ (2-3) after a studied move that his team executed very quickly after kick-off, with only seconds passed
The goalscorer thanked his assistant coach Nourdin Boukhari, who was inspired by the kick-off play last season in a game between Fulham and Bournemouth. On that occasion, Dominic Solanke completed the strategic move in much the same way.
“We looked a lot at that Bournemouth footage and we trained with it yesterday,” Van Crooij said. With this quick opening goal, Van Crooij equaled Koos Waslander’s record for the fastest goal in the Dutch league. As a NAC player, he scored eight seconds after kick-off against PEC Zwolle in 1982 (1–2 win).
The Dutch team thanked Bournemouth on social media and the English team responded to the post with humour.
