Polestar 3, a science fiction car in 2023

Date:

With its first SUV,
Polestar aims to define the electric car of the future. Of all the offerings available on the market from 2023, the Polestar 3 is the most like something that could very well come out of the pages of an Asimov novel.

The first example is the 1.2 million small mirrors that make up each of the headlamps.
These are controlled by the powerful Nvidia central processor to generate beams of light that the rest of the drivers can detect and turn off the exact number so as not to dazzle them dynamically throughout their entire trajectory.

And it is that dynamism and directness are two qualities of the Polestar 3. The power delivery, thanks to the two electric motors, guarantees this: in the access version,
in between they add 360 kW (483 hp) and 840 Nm of torque immediately, resulting in a 0 to 100 in five seconds.

If the Performance Pack is selected, these figures increase to 380 kW (510 hp) and 910 Nm, reducing the time to reach 100 km/h.
4.7 seconds. As for the autonomy, the battery with a capacity of 111 kWh can reach 610 km according to the WLTP cycle.

But it’s not the numbers that make it science fiction, but details that say more about the world than the car. Modern cities are polluted. In August, a Stockholm University study revealed that the rain is not drinkable in any part of the world due to the amount of chemicals present.

That’s why the car of the future will have passenger compartment air filters that remove 95% of particulate matter, 97% of viruses and molds and 99.9% of pollen.
The 7,000 liters of air inside is refreshed every minute.

“The car has become one of the few places where it is acceptable to be alone,” said the brand’s CEO,
Thomas Ingenlath. A clean retreat isolated from the outside world where the philosophy is ‘if you can’t escape the jam, make it as pleasant as possible’.

The Polestar 3 has a Bowers & Wilkins designed 25-speaker sound system that can handle Dolby Atmos surround sound. The 28-channel amplifier – including an air woofer – has a total power of 1,750 watts,
the same as 17 Metallica amps would produce.

One of the benefits of electric cars is that they free up the front for engineers, a much sought-after space previously reserved for air intakes to cool the engines. Now, the Polestar 3, it’s dubbed the Smart Zone,
where are all the front sensors located?: cameras, radars, ultrasound… even a resistor that heats it so that it quickly reaches the optimum operating temperature.

This, along with the processor,
allows you to adjust and adjust torque vectoring on any axis the air suspension of each wheel every two inches that it advances. In addition, from 2023, orders will be accepted with a Luminar Lidar, the first step towards autonomous driving for the brand.

Polestar 3 orders are now open and
production will start at Chengdu factory in mid-2023 (China). Later, the Volvo assembly lines in Ridgeville (USA) will also be opened to supply that market and avoid tariffs. Deliveries will start at the end of that year.

In Spain, the brand strategy is focused on the corporate fleet channel. In the words of the director of the Iberian subsidiary, Stéphane Le Guével, this is a man

The price, for all European markets – the equally futuristic online distribution model ensures the homogenization of regions –
part of the 89,900 euroswith an additional 6,600 supplement for the Performance Pack.
